Environmental Relationship
Sustainable Development
The environmental relationship built up by the Group over the last forty-five years is a point of excellence and a significant competitive advantage. Understanding the paradigm shift from a linear economy to a circular model is the fundamental prerequisite for us to make our contribution to promoting sustainable business development with zero environmental impact.
Environmental Relationship
The Group produces two types of emissions. As far as industrial processes are concerned, the points of emission into the atmosphere come together in a centralized plant equipped with an active carbon filter system that allows the abatement of organic substances. As a result, only carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere. Filters are periodically checked. If necessary, they are changed and regenerated. The entire emission process, as far as Italian companies are concerned, complies with Legislative Decree no . 152 of 3 April 2006. For foreign companies, everything is compliant with local regulations.
At the separate collection areas which are located in the goods loading/unloading area of each Group factory, there is a register indicating the EWC (European Waste Code) and the weight of each discarded object. Regularly, the person in charge sends, using a USB flash drive issued by the Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Tutela del Territorio e del Mare (Ministry of the environment and protection of land and sea), the data relative to the above-mentioned register to a database which is centrally managed by the Carabinieri. Finally, when transporting waste to authorized disposal centers, the carrier, equipped with his USB drive, is required to acquire the data about the Group’s waste and transfer it to other interested parties (all in compliance with Ministerial Decree of 15 February 2010, SISTRI Regulations).
The analysis of the critical issues related to – and caused by – the activities of the Group led, in 2008, to the creation of the Risk Assessment Document (by Legislative Decree no. 81/08 – Testo Unico per la Sicurezza, T.U.S.), which provides for a particular process of management of the raw materials used in the production processes. This document, which was revised and updated in 2009, led in turn to the revision of the health protocol, which is complied with by each Italian company in the Group. An analysis of the operating procedures of the foreign subsidiaries is currently underway.
The drafting and revision of the Risk Assessment Document, supported by specific instrumental surveys, was entrusted to a qualified company that complied with the requirements imposed by the T.U.S.
The Risk Assessment Document, in the presence of raw materials that require special treatment, provides for the issuing of a specific health protocol, which the Group scrupulously respects. If highly dangerous substances (carcinogens) are discovered, the raw material in question is immediately eliminated from the Group’s supplies.
In addition to compliance with this decree, the Viasat Group purchases and manages raw materials in compliance with the European RoHS (2002/95/EC) and Reach (1907/2006) directives.
Overall, the Viasat Group can count on several server installations to manage the Information Technology needed for the functioning of the internal network, for electronic data storage, and the management of the Security Operations Center.
There has been a steady increase in the number of servers installed, which indicates that the Group is also growing, in proportion to the growing numbers of its customers, about its infotelematics infrastructure. The continuous energy efficiency policy has limited the increase in power consumption. The Group has organized itself to rely on the best technological solutions available on the market, which will allow us to operate effectively in the IoT, Big Data, and Fast Data sectors.
The Viasat Group draws the water it needs directly from the public aqueduct and disposes of it directly through the sewer system.
Among all the intangible assets that can be owned by a modern organization, human capital is the most fundamental resource for every company. Over time, the importance of skills, knowledge, and the ability to keep learning has been increasingly understood and valued. They are fundamental when it comes to managing an environment that is constantly and rapidly changing, and crucial for adapting the existing organizational models to new needs. The ability to retain, motivate and incentivize employees contributes to creating a virtuous process of improvement.
