The Viasat Group is furthering its growth process abroad, bringing together the dynamic realities of the fleet management world. In addition, it has just completed a key acquisition in Italy that clearly expresses its desire to consecrate its leadership in the urban hygiene market.
Vem Solutions S.p.A., a Viasat Group company that designs and manufactures hardware, firmware and software platforms for the support and provision of telematics, IoT and Big Data services, announces the acquisition of 70% of the shares of Helian S.r.l., a company based in Abruzzo, Italy. Helian S.r.l. specializes in hardware and software solutions for road safety and traffic; it has created Street Control and other solutions dedicated to territorial and environmental monitoring through Wireless Sensor Networks.
Starting from March 31 in all of Europe, newly type-approved vehicles will have to be equipped with eCall, an abbreviation of “emergency call”. The logic is very simple: eCall is a system response to what motorists cannot or are unable to do by themselves, that is, make an immediate emergency call.

The merger between the two companies Elem S. p. A. and Vem Solutions S. r. l., both entirely owned by the Viasat Group holding company came to fruition. It marked the birth of a new, global player which will compete in the markets of the future thanks to its innovative development skills, operational flexibility and technological synergies, which will further enhance and develop the Group’s typical businesses and the new opportunities brought by IoT, Big Data analytics and business intelligence.
